Conversational Dinner Plan

Set up a systematic plan where 7-8 people are grouped together in someone's home for the evening meal once a month for a series of four months. Use as a time for regulars to learn to know each other better as well as the newer people.

BEST SUITED FOR: Any Size Congregation

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

bulletA public verbal announcement is made along with a sheet explaining the process, with a stub to return for people that are interested.
bulletThis four-month series works well beginning in January (right after the rush of Christmas).
bulletProcedure:
  1. The whole participating group is divided up in smaller groups of 7-8 people (couples or individuals) but these groups are composed of a different set of people each of the four months.
  2. Participating persons host the event once during the four months in their home.
  3. Each couple or individual is assigned to bring either a vegetable, salad, or dessert, and host supplies meat dish and beverage (this is rotated each month).

DO'S AND DON'TS

bulletDO......personally invite newer people and make sure they know how the system works.
bulletDO......try to mix ages and occupations and interests.
bulletDO......give out the schedule about six weeks ahead of the first month, so people can make the date a priority.
bulletDO......remind people that if they are scheduled for an unsuitable date, they may switch with someone.
bulletDO......make adjustments for people who would rather not host the group in their home.
bulletDON'T......assume that good interaction and getting acquainted will take place without some guided questions (possible different questions should be posed each month).

RESOURCES NEEDED

bulletA committee of at least three people to receive the names of participants, work out a suitable schedule, type it up, and hand it out.

COST: None.
